Students use their observational skills to discover the beauty and variety of seeds.

Using materials from the garden artworks on a grand or mini scale are created to form a temporary art gallery.

KS1 In the potting shed
Pupils will join our experts in the plant nursery to find out about how plants grow from seed. Pupils will take their potted seeds back to school to watch them grow.

Pupils will be amazed by the variety of life collected from the Wakehurst ponds. This is currently available as an indoor session only.

Students use different techniques to hunt through the long grass, trees and leaf litter to find and observe a wonderful variety of creatures.

Pupils identify the parts of a plant using a variety of fruit and vegetables, and explore which plant parts are edible.

Become a modern-day plant hunter and get to know some of the amazing trees at Wakehurst.

KS1 Story of a sunflower
The story of the life cycle of a sunflower unfolds as children observe the different stages using plants grown in our nursery.

KS1 In search of a home trail
Students go on a trail to look for animal homes in trees and bushes, under log piles and in leaf litter. They look for evidence of animals, for example worm casts and mole hills.

This is a bespoke trail using story sticks and collected fallen plant material to create a record to take back to school.

This trail round the Mansion garden extends knowledge and interest in the parts of a plant.

Pupils will investigate the varied collection of trees at Wakehurst and their individual characteristics.

Pupils will search for bees and other pollinators and learn about the pollination process (available seasonally from late spring to early autumn).
