EYFS Wakehurst in the autumn trail

Pupils are taken on a trail around the gardens and learn about and observe seasonal changes.

They investigate how plants survive the winter and through the use of the diverse collection of plants found at Wakehurst they identify the signs of autumn. 

Learning outcomes

We design our sessions to match the learning outcomes in the national curriculum. All our sessions have a cross-curricular approach and are tailored to suit the educational needs of your group.  

This session offers pupils the opportunity to 

• Listen to and follow instructions.

• Walk and cooperate in groups.

• Explore and observe the natural surroundings.

• Find out about plants and seeds.

• Talk about their findings.

• Recognise that some plants lose their leaves during the winter and some do not .

• Observe and begin to identify signs of autumn.

• Enjoy the beauty and wonder of the plants and the outside environment in the autumn.
