Community Horticultural Learning Programme

Join us to explore Kew's collections and scientific work through hands-on gardening and creative workshops.

Based at Lion Gate, our community allotment is an inclusive and welcoming space for people of all abilities.

All Community Horticultural Learning events are open to groups and individuals who are members the Community Access Scheme (CAS) at Kew Gardens, and those who might otherwise face physical, sensory, psychological, or social barriers to visiting Kew.

All sessions are free and entry to the Gardens is included. Booking is essential as places are limited.

Monthly gardening workshops

Join us at the community allotment to participate in a hands-on gardening workshop for all abilities. Please dress appropriately for gardening. Tools and materials are provided.  Booking essential.

When: First Sunday of every month 1pm to 3pm.

Learn how to make a kokedama (moss ball) or grow basil on your windowsill.

Tool shed

Hone your DIY skills and build your confidence at our monthly carpentry workshops for all abilities. These sessions focus on mental health recovery and wellbeing.

Please dress for the outdoors. Tools and materials are provided. Booking essential.

When: Last Tuesday of the month, 1pm to 4pm
Discover horticulture

Join us for an introduction to gardening with practical workshops and bespoke tours of the Gardens. You will have the opportunity to learn about Kew’s history, diverse collections, and scientific work. This project is offered as either a discovery day or as a three-day course.
Plot take-over

Community groups who have completed the Discover Horticulture course will have the opportunity to tend the community allotment for the growing season. These sessions are for organisations and charities that work with refugees, asylum seekers, people in crisis and those struggling with homelessness.

If you run or are part of a growing project, community garden or local green initiative then get in touch to find out about upcoming networking events and plant give-aways.
Pollinators of the Palm House

Hear from our experts about the remarkable Palm House at Kew and the plants and pollinators housed within.
