Visitor notices and rules for Wakehurst

We welcome registered disability assistance dogs, no other dogs are allowed at Wakehurst. Special hot drink offer on weekdays for Friends of Wakehurst and National Trust members between 8 January and 28 February 2018.

Visitor notices

Until May 2018 we have a programme of improvements to our paths and boundaries, so some areas will be closed to visitors. Map of weekday closures
Due to unforeseen circumstances some paths will remain closed at weekends while work is carried out. For more information call 01444 894067.

Special offer for Friends of Wakehurst and National Trust Members
On weekdays between 8 January and 28 February 2018, from 10am to 11.30am, enjoy a tea or filtered coffee in the Stables restaurant for the special price of £1. Become a Friend of Wakehurst.


  • Tickets are non-refundable
  • If you wish to re-enter the gardens later on the same day, just tell a Visitor Assistant as you leave
  • An adult must accompany any child 16 or under 

Garden rules

To protect our plants and buildings, the following things are not allowed:

  • dogs or other animals (other than registered disability assistance dogs, and such dogs must be kept on a lead at all times)
  • flying of drones and other remotely controlled aircraft and equipment
  • bicycles, balance bikes, tricycles, scooters, rollerskates, rollerblades, skateboards or heelies
  • vehicles other than powered wheelchairs and mobility scooters
  • radios / music players or musical instruments
  • ball games or sports including jogging
  • tree-climbing
  • pruning or touching plants


We allow picnics with the following restrictions:

  • No picnics on the two lawns in front of the Mansion, or in the cafés and restaurant
  • No barbeques or picnic furniture
  • Please take away your rubbish


Special permission is required for commercial photography / painting / filming / recording anywhere at Wakehurst.
