Specialism

Northwest Amazon, ethnobotany, art practice, collections.

My main focus of my research is on the Richard Spruce Collection – a collection of around 300 ethnobotanical artefacts and 14,000 herbarium specimens. As an artist, I explore knowledge through systems of observation and haptic processes. My research is interdisciplinary, working in collaboration with scientists as well as with indigenous source communities in the Northwest Amazon. Central to my current study is the question of whether an art practice can represent the social agency of objects, negotiating their role in cosmological belief systems and rituals.
