Mini and Young Scientist Backpacks
Ignite your child’s scientific curiosity with one of our scientist backpacks, filled with intriguing items and fun activities.
Visitors aged 3-7 years and 7+ years can explore different areas of the Gardens through a series of hands-on activities. Art materials and seasonal spotter sheets are also provided, and all drawings can be taken home with you.
To hire a backpack (£4.50 hire charge) please email familylearning@kew.org adding ‘backpack hire’ in the subject box, if a backpack is available on the date of your request, we will send you a booking form and organise pre-payment over the phone.

Card payment is taken over the phone prior to your visit (sorry no cash).
List of available concessions:
- Day ticket holders £4.50 per backpack. Siblings: £8 for two packs or £12 for three packs
- Kew members £3 per backpack. Siblings: £5 for two packs or £8 for three packs
- FREE to families on Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), an Essential Carer, Registered Blind or Partially Sighted or Community Access Scheme members.
Families will need to present proof on arrival.

Please note that you must complete this form 5 working days before your visit date. We cannot confirm bookings for less than 5 days. Backpacks must be pre-booked and paid for prior to your visit.
Once your form is completed, we will contact you to confirm that your booking has been received, processed, and organise collecting payment over the phone. We will then confirm details on how and where to pick up and return your backpack.
One proof of identification from the list below is required on collection.
