Illegal plant trade, CITES implementation, CITES research, plant import and export regulations, stable isotope ratio analysis and trace element analysis to determine plant origin, AI, web crawling, online plant trade.

I am currently working as the project officer on a multidisciplinary project, looking at the illegal poaching and trade of succulents out of South Africa. I focus on the use of 'chemical fingerprinting' techniques, such as stable isotope ratio analysis and trace element analysis, to help identify plant origin and develop chemical tagging techniques. I also help to operate an AI web crawler that is able to collect data relating to online plant trade.
