My research focuses on the chemistry of the Gentianales, with a particular focus on finding novel alkaloids which could have pharmaceutical or medicinal applications. Investigating the chemistry of plants with potential nutritional or economic value also forms part of this work. I have also previously investigated the biosynthesis of triterpenoids and triterpenoid saponins, especially in the Sapindales.

To study the chemistry of these plants I predominantly employ high-resolution LC-MS, alongside classical chemical techniques to isolate and characterise compounds through NMR.
