Let the magic begin...
Now in its sixth year, the enchanting lantern trail is full of surprises and new installations.
Trees, ponds and landscapes will be brought to life with hundreds of glowing lanterns, fire torches, projections and soundscapes.
Glimpse the tallest living Christmas tree in the UK decorated with 1,800 lights, and experience the evocative sounds of the nocturnal world.
New for 2019
More than 10 artists are creating installations for Glow Wild 2019, including three who are brand new for this year. Don’t miss spellbinding shadows that draw you through the willow tunnels, woven by sculptor Tom Hare, cocooning you in their soft dancing light.
Unique atmospheric soundscapes
For the first time the trail will have a bespoke soundscape, inspired by Wakehurst’s nocturnal world. Creative sound artists, Ithaca, will take you on a journey through the winter landscape from the icy cold forests to warm Carriage Ring glow.
The resilience of trees
Inspired by the amazing botanic collection at Wakehurst, this year Glow Wild explores the resilience of trees. Wind your way through the newly designed winter treescape, spot seed shaped lanterns and marvel at the mesmerising tree projection on the Mansion by artist and producer Jony Easterby.
Get creative in the warm and cosy Mansion after the trail. Children will enjoy unleashing their creativity by making their very own festive dormouse lantern to take home and hang on the Christmas tree.
Spaces for lantern making are limited. We recommend pre-booking at the time of purchasing tickets online. There is no allotted time for this activity but happens when you reach the end of the trail.
Pre-packaged lantern-making kits will be available to buy and take home on the day, and available to purchase by cash or card.
Warming food and drink
Keep the chills at bay with some delicious food and beverages at the start and end of the trail.
Enjoy teas, coffee, cakes, sandwiches and a small range of hot food at the Seed Café.
The Stables restaurant will have an array of tempting dishes on the menu, including hearty winter fare plus a freshly cooked children’s menu that you can enjoy after your trail.
Outside, the Carriage Ring (open until 9.45pm) will be a festive hub of delicious food and drink stalls. You can indulge in mulled wine and cider, hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts.
Toasting marshmallows over our giant fire pits will make your evening a unique experience.
