Accessibility at Wakehurst
We want everyone to have an enjoyable time at Wakehurst, so we aim to provide the best possible access throughout the garden, our buildings and other facilities.
Free entry for:
- registered blind and partially-sighted visitors
- essential carers accompanying visitors with a disability
There are a limited number of parkings spaces available for cars displaying a Blue Badge. They are next to the Visitor Centre.
There are many gravel and hard surface paths around the gardens. A large area of the ornamental planting, lawns and water features around the Mansion is level and accessible via a hard surface path from the Visitor Centre.
The remaining garden and woodland areas have steep slopes and steps.
There is level or ramped access to:
- Interactive exhibition in the Millennium Seed Bank
- Visitor Centre
- The Stables restaurant
- Seed Café
The Wakehurst Visitor Map, available at the Visitor Centre, shows the different types of path around the site.
Only registered disability assistance dogs are allowed in the gardens and must be on a lead.
Borrow a wheelchair or mobility scooter
There are a limited number of wheelchairs available to borrow. There is no need to book in advance, please ask when you arrive
There are two mobility scooters to borrow, these must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. To book please call us, +44 (0)1444 894070.
New MT Push all terrain wheelchair
We are delighted to have a new MT Push all terrain wheelchair on trial at Wakehurst from 23 April – 20 May 2019. Booking recommended via +44 (0)1444 894070.
The all terrain wheelchair provides inclusive access as it has the ability to push over a wide variety of terrains such as grass, gravel and bark, as well as being lightweight and easy to use.
