Students visit the world renowned Millennium Seed Bank to discover and experience work practices in a scientific establishment.

Pupils will use creative approaches to develop and record ideas using our world class collections of native and exotic plants as inspiration.

Students visit the renowned Millennium Seed Bank to discover its vital role in the worldwide conservation of plant biodiversity.

At Wakehurst students will experience in situ and ex situ conservation in action.

KS5 Biology: DNA profiling
Students apply the technique of DNA fingerprinting in a Customs and Excise investigation and will develop skills included in the Common Practical Assessment Criteria (CPAC).

KS5 Biology: Ecology-themed course
Pupils will carry out ecological studies using conservation techniques, and will develop skills included in the Common Practical Assessment Criteria (CPAC). One or two day course.

KS5 Biology: Micropropagation and cloning lab session
Students investigate asexual reproduction in conservation and mass propagation techniques. This biotechnology workshop is designed to enhance curriculum delivery.

Pupils get practice in microscope skills using our high quality microscopes and use these skills to identify plant transport structures. Students will develop the skills used in required practicals.

Students take a practical approach to photosynthesis which relates theory to practice. They will develop skills included in the Common Practical Assessment Criteria (CPAC).

Pupils take a practical approach to the principles of classification using a wide variety of specimens including material from the Kew’s Herbarium.
