Key Stage 2

Duration

45 minutes

Allocated space

30 pupils per group

This session uses our trees to illustrate key scientific plant objectives.

This includes identifying and studying parts of a plant, comparing and observing closely, considering seasonality and diversity of trees and how trees change over the year, and identifying common trees including whether they are deciduous or evergreen.

Learning outcomes

We design our sessions to match the learning outcomes in the national curriculum.

All our sessions have a cross-curricular approach and are tailored to suit the educational needs of your group. We aim to give pupils opportunities to work scientifically in areas that are difficult or impossible to create in the school environment.

This session offers pupils the opportunity to:

  • Identify and name the parts of plants and trees.
  • Consider the diversity of trees; colour, shape etc.
  • Describe the function of each of the parts of the plant.
  • Recognise that some trees lose their leaves during the winter and some don't.
  • Observe and describe weather patterns associated with seasons and the effect it has on trees.
