Level

Key Stage 2

Duration

45 minutes

Allocated space

30 pupils per group

In this session, pupils go on a trail around the Gardens and collect natural materials.

They use these materials to create their own story sticks, which can be used back at school to follow up on the visit.

Learning outcomes

We design our sessions to match the learning outcomes in the national curriculum. All our sessions have a cross-curricular approach and are tailored to suit the educational needs of your group. We aim to give pupils opportunities that are difficult or impossible to create in the school environment.

This session offers pupils the opportunity to:

  • Ask simple questions
  • Identify and name the parts of plants and trees
  • Recognise that some plants lose their leaves during the winter and some do not (deciduous, evergreen)
  • Select and collect suitable material
  • Understand the need to choose only fallen plant material
  • Creatively construct the story stick.

Curriculum links

This KS2 visit supports and enhances the Science curriculum offered in schools but could also be linked to other parts of the curriculum e.g Art and Design.
