KS2 Art in the garden

Using materials from the garden, pupils create art to form a temporary art gallery

The Iris Dell

Level

Key Stage 2

Duration

45 minutes

Allocated space

30 pupils per group

Inspired by their natural surroundings at Wakehurst and artists' designs, pupils work in groups to explore their own ideas. They produce ephemeral works of art using collected parts of plants and trees.

Through role-play, pupils open their temporary gallery, evaluate their art and record it with photographs.

Learning outcomes

We design our sessions to match the learning outcomes in the national curriculum.

All our sessions have a cross-curricular approach and are tailored to suit the educational needs of your group.

We aim to give pupils opportunities that are difficult or impossible to create in the school environment.

This session offers pupils the opportunity to:

  • Look at examples of the work of ephemeral artists such as Andy Goldsworthy for inspiration.
  • Use a range of natural materials gathered from Wakehurst’s gardens to produce creative 2 or 3D work.
  • Work collaboratively, sharing ideas.
  • Evaluate and talk about the work created
