How can a plant protect itself from sunburn without sun cream? Or avoid being eaten when it cannot run away?

This trail gives pupils the chance to discover answers to these and other tricky questions; finding out how plants adapt to enable them to survive and thrive in challenging habitats.

Learning outcomes

We design our sessions to match the learning outcomes in the national curriculum. All our sessions have a cross-curricular approach and are tailored to suit the educational needs of your group.

We aim to give pupils opportunities to work scientifically in areas that are difficult or impossible to create in the school environment.

This session offers pupils the opportunity to:

  • Identify and name plants and consider the way their structures have been modified (adaptations)
  • Describe the function and structure of these adaptations
  • Recognise that there are variations in those adaptations depending on where they grow
