Andrew Budden
Species Conservation Assessor

Biography
My role as Species Conservation Researcher for the State of the World’s Plants project involves using the resources at Kew to better understand species that have been selected as part of the Sampled Red List Index. My focus is on African and Oceanian species and I collect data from herbarium specimens at Kew and elsewhere, and georeference them to generate maps of species’ distribution. I research the literature for each species to provide as full a picture as possible about them, including the threats that face them to enable my Assessor colleagues to complete comprehensive assessments to be published on the IUCN Red List.
