HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes elongated. Culms 65–79 cm long. Culm-nodes brown; glabrous. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 2–2.8 mm long; trilobed. Leaf-blades linear, or lanceolate; flat, or convolute; 5.7–10.4 cm long; 2.6–5.1 mm wide; stiff. Leaf-blade surface scaberulous; glabrous. Leaf-blade apex acuminate, or attenuate; muticous, or pungent (subpungent).

INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle; comprising 100 fertile spikelets.

Panicle contracted; oblong; interrupted; 4.7–7.7 cm long. Panicle branches scabrous.

Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets oblong; laterally compressed; 4.5–6.4 mm long; falling entire. Rhachilla internodes elongated below proximal fertile floret. Rhachilla elongation 0.33–0.53 mm long; glabrous. Floret callus glabrous.

GLUMES Glumes similar; exceeding apex of florets; thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume elliptic; 4.5–5.8 mm long; 1 length of upper glume; chartaceous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Lower glume primary vein scaberulous. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex acuminate. Upper glume elliptic; 4.4–5.1 mm long; 2 length of adjacent fertile lemma; chartaceous; 1-keeled; 3 -veined. Upper glume primary vein scaberulous. Upper glume margins scaberulous. Upper glume apex acuminate.

FLORETS Fertile lemma ovate; 2.2–2.6 mm long; cartilaginous; shiny; keeled; keeled above; 3–5 -veined. Lemma midvein ciliolate. Lemma margins ciliolate. Lemma apex dentate; 3 -fid. Rhachilla extension 0.6–0.75 mm long; glabrous, or pubescent. Apical sterile florets 1 in number; male; ovate; 2.2–2.6 mm long. Apical sterile lemmas pubescent; emarginate; awned; 1 -awned. Apical sterile lemma awns dorsal; geniculate; 3.3–4.1 mm long.

FLOWER Lodicules 2; 0.7 mm long; with a small lateral lobe. Anthers 3; 1.3 mm long.
