Chusquea gigantea

HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes elongated. Culms erect; 600–1500 cm long; 30–50 mm diam.; woody. Culm-internodes terete; scaberulous. Lateral branches dendroid. Branch complement many; in several rows; with 1 branch dominant. Culm-sheaths red; pubescent. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades lanceolate; herbaceous.

INFLORESCENCE Flowering specimens unknown.

DISTRIBUTION South America: southern South America.
