Chusquea clemirae

HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes short; pachymorph. Culms scandent; 500–600 cm long; 4–9 mm diam.; woody. Culm-internodes terete; with small lumen, or solid; 10–28 cm long. Lateral branches dendroid; extravaginal; ascending. Bud complement 8–18. Branch complement several, or many; in a horizontal line. Culm-sheaths deciduous but leaving a persistent girdle; 11–12 cm long; 1.1–1.4 times as long as wide; antrorsely scabrous; pilose; hairy on margins. Culm-sheath ligule 1 mm high. Culm-sheath blade triangular; as wide as sheath at base; deciduous; erect; 8–11 cm long; scabrid and with ciliate margins; acuminate. Leaves 5–7 per branch. Leaf-sheaths pilose; outer margin hairy. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 1 mm long; scaberulous on abaxial surface; acuminate. Collar with external ligule. Leaf-blade base broadly rounded; symmetrical, or asymmetrical; with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath; petiole 0.1 cm long; petiole pubescent. Leaf-blades lanceolate; 7.9–15.2 cm long; 8–18 mm wide; membranous. Leaf-blade surface pilose; densely hairy; hairy adaxially. Leaf-blade margins scabrous. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.
