Merostachys vestita

HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes short; pachymorph. Culms woody. Culm-internodes terete; 13 cm long; antrorsely scabrous. Lateral branches dendroid. Branch complement flabellate. Culm-sheaths 20 cm long; 4–5 times as long as wide; coriaceous; puberulous; setose on shoulders; shoulders with 10 mm long hairs. Culm-sheath ligule dentate. Leaf-sheaths striately veined; punctate; glabrous on surface, or puberulous; outer margin hairy. Leaf-sheath oral hairs setose; 13 mm long. Ligule a ciliolate membrane; 0.5 mm long; erose; truncate. Collar with external ligule. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath; petiole 0.3 cm long. Leaf-blades lanceolate; 15 cm long; 23 mm wide. Leaf-blade venation without cross veins. Leaf-blade surface pubescent; sparsely hairy; hairy abaxially. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.

DISTRIBUTION South America: Brazil.
