Alpine House Takes Shape

Alpine House interior, 8 August 2005Update 8 August 2005

The rockwork inside the new Alpine House has now been completed. The rock is Sussex sandstone and was salvaged from the previous house. A range of habitats has been created, from broad planting bays and gullies, to narrow cracks and crevices. During the next few weeks the soil will be put in and planting will take place throughout the autumn. The black ventilation pipes will be cut down to the correct height to fit the landscape and metal hoods will be fitted to them, so cool air from the underground chamber will be blown over the plants. The house will officially open next spring.

8 March 2005

The second half of the frame for the New Alpine House arrived on 8 March and the house is really taking shape. The construction work on the Alpine House will be finished in May and interior landscaping will be completed in Autumn 2005. The building was designed by architects Wilkinson Eyre.
