What's new in release 7.0

The main innovation in release 7.0 is the Salt Tolerance module, which is actually a hosting of ‘eHALOPH’, a database of halophytic plants and their traits compiled by Tim and Sam Flowers at the University of Sussex, and based on earlier work by James Aronson. It currently consists of 1550 records, covering 1309 species new to SID.

In addition:

The Seed Weight Database has been expanded by:

  1. 65 records for orchids, representing 31 species new to SID;
  2. 208 records of tropical forest species (Matt Daws), including 22 species new to SID.

These are on top of the ca 1,700 records for species from the UK Flora added to v6 earlier this year by Sarah Flynn; who, by the way has moved on to pastures new.

Elly Vaes and Wolfgang Stuppy have added 217 records to the Morphology Dataset, with 862 associated images, representing 125 new species new to SID.

Finally, the Germination Dataset has been expanded by 2710 records, representing 889 new species and a lot of work by our Curation teams.
