Chilli peppers are used as a pungent spice in cooking and can be used to flavour ginger beer. They're in pharmaceutical products for treating conditions such as arthritis and athlete's foot. Maya Indians used pepper spray as a weapon against their enemies and are still used by police forces to control unruly individuals.
