The official website for Wakehurst; beautiful botanic gardens located in West Sussex and managed by Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Set in 465 acres of country estate, Wakehurst boasts ornamental gardens, temperate woodlands, a nature reserve, and an Elizabethan mansion.

Surround yourself in the natural beauty of the area, enjoy afternoon tea or learn about the essential conservation work of Kew's Millennium Seed Bank. With natural play areas for the children, and wildlife all around, there is something to keep everyone entertained.

50 Years of Kew at Wakehurst

In 2015 we celebrated the golden jubilee of Kew’s management of the Wakehurst Estate. 

Much has been achieved, from the Millennium Seed Bank project and the creation of the Loder Valley and Francis Rose Nature Reserves to the introduction of the Visitor Centre, the Seed café and Stables restaurant.

Wakehurst has become a world class visitor attraction.


There is always plenty to see at Wakehurst, from the blossom and blooms of the formal gardens to the diverse animal and plant life of the Loder Valley Nature Reserve.

Daily guided walking tour of Wakehurst

The mansion at Wakehurst, bathed in sunlight
Join us on a daily tour lasting 1-1½ hrs giving visitors the chance to see plants of seasonal interest and discover the fascinating history of the estate.

Tours take place at 11.30am when availability allows. Please check at the Visitor Centre.
