Themed plant collections

After the Great Storm of October 1987 when Wakehurst Place tragically lost around 15,000 trees, a series of scientifically important tree collections were planted to replace those lost. These have become a key attraction for visitors and support Kew’s focus on conservation and education.

Bethlehem Wood at Wakehurst
Bethlehem Wood, located a short walk west of the Main Entrance and Visitor Centre, is comprised almost entirely of birches.
Wakehurst's National Collection of southern beeches (Nothofagus) is located within Coates' Wood, roughly to the north of the Main Gate and Visitor Centre.
