A photo of Apple Jacob in the Temperate House

Apple Jacob

Originally made from apple wood, and now cast in bronze, this tripod depicts a flight of steps. The name refers to the Old Testament story in The Bible in which Jacob dreams of a ladder reaching into heaven.

Photo: Blue Ring (pastel on canvas) in Nash's studio

Blue Ring

Blue Ring began as a living work – a circle of bluebells on the hillside at Cae'n-y-Coed in Wales. In his exhibition at Kew Gardens, Nash represents this work through a series of drawings and a ring of bluebell seeds.

Photo: Crossed Egg by David Nash

Crossed Egg

The original from which this bronze has been cast was solid wood and the cross shapes were carved into the form. Bronze casts are hollow and Nash realised that he had an opportunity to use this hollowness, the crosses being cut through the shell to accentuate the three dimensional dynamic.

Seed
