Things to do with kids
Saturday 15 February to Sunday 23 February 2014
Leave the winter cold outside in February 2014 and enter the tropical splendour of the Princess of Wales Conservatory for our spectacular annual orchid festival.
During February half-term we invite little people with enquiring minds to join us on a journey through time; retracing the footsteps of the intrepid Victorian plant-hunters, right through to their modern-day counterparts at Kew Gardens.
Watch our time-lapse video to see how we made the plant-hunter's camp.
When: Saturday 15-Sunday 23 February
Where: Princess of Wales Conservatory Film Room
Times: 11am-3.30pm daily (drop in)
FREE with entry to the gardens
*Children must be accompanied by an adult
Visit our rainforest encampment to find out how Kew’s plant conservation specialists go about their plant-finding missions. Take a walk in the shoes of an explorer as you compare Victorian and modern-day outfits and hear exciting tales of derring-do.
See how they have been used in plant conservation through the ages. Kids will get to pick up some expedition tips in the bushcraft skills demonstrations; learn how to start a fire, and why they should always shake out your shoes before you put them on!
When they are fully skilled and ready to take part in our challenge, they will embark on their own expedition to discover an orchid and make a botanical drawing.
Where: Climbers and Creepers
When: Sat 15 February - Sun 23 February 2014, 10.30am-4.30pm
Times: 10.30am – 4.30pm

Visit Climbers and Creepers during half term for some children's face painting fun and games. Stick with the orchid theme and choose the style of a Plant Explorer or go for one of the more traditional designs, from butterflies to fairies.
