The ultimate icon of British music
Making his way overground for this year’s Kew the Music is Paul Weller. Born in Woking in 1958, Paul Weller kicked off his career with The Jam in the late 70s. Placing themselves at the forefront of the mod revival, the band put out evergreen tracks like Going Underground, Town Called Malice and Eton Rifles and their influence can be heard in the songs of the Arctic Monkeys, Oasis and a whole generation of Britpop bands.
Ever the 'Changing Man', Paul went on to blend funk and soul in his next incarnation, The Style Council. Featuring vocals from 80s ingenue Tracie Young, Everything But the Girl singer Tracey Thorn and Dee. C Lee, The Style Council are remembered for You’re the Best Thing and My Ever-Changing Moods, among other hits.
Since the 90s, Paul has been triumphing with his solo efforts, including the Mercury-nominated Wild Wood and Wake up the Nation, chart-topping Stanley Road and recent album Sonik Kicks.
Rock. Punk. Mod. Soul. Acoustic. A night with Paul Weller at Kew - now 'That's Entertainment'!
