About the exhibition

Rory McEwen’s Legacy: Artists influenced by him in the Shirley Sherwood Collection is a supporting exhibition that runs alongside the much awaited show, Rory McEwen, The Colours of Reality. Dr. Sherwood's exhibition shows how Rory inspired many of the contemporary artists in her extensive botanical art collection and includes a wide range of paintings by the celebrated botanical illustrators of today.

The main exhibition, Rory McEwen, The Colours of Reality opened on 11 May 2013 and showcases the botanical work and other creative talents of Rory McEwen. It features many of his works from the period spanning the 1950s to the early 1980s that have been loaned from both his family and from private collectors. Born in Berwickshire, Scotland in 1932, Rory McEwen began developing his natural aptitude for art whilst at Eton College. He had a talent for representing botanical subject matter with scientific precision and artistic flair, and never compromised one for the other.
