A wooden original

After 16 years outdoors, the original wood version of Lightning Strike was showing signs of age. It had decayed and was full of woodpecker holes. At the time, Nash had started to work with iron and steel, so this Lightning Strike was one of his first experiments with a new material.

Corten steel carries qualities of rawness and rust, and is placed to link this outdoor space with the internal environment of the Temperate House. 'A lot of people who know my work as wood so there will be some surprises for them, like Iron Dome at the Main Gate and Lightning Strike.'
