Introduction to the Gardens
Tours leave at 11am and 1.30pm, with an additional tour at 2.30pm between May and August, from the information desk at Victoria Gate Plaza. Each guide presents their own tour, taking in the highlights of the season, exploring the exotic plants in the glasshouses and explaining the history and work of Kew. On this tour Kew Guides will introduce you to the history and role of Kew, the scientific work that goes on behind the scenes, seasonal highlights, and at least one great glasshouse.
Tours leave at 12 noon or 2pm from the information desk at Victoria Gate Plaza. Our guides offer a variety of fascinating themes including Spring into Life—a walk through spring bulbs, Fascinating Flowers—how flowers attract pollinators, and Kew in Wartime—how Kew staff contributed to the war effort during two World Wars.
These tours last approximately one hour and are for individual/casual visitors to the Gardens. There is a limit of 15 people per tour and places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register with the guide 15 minutes before the tour departs.
Meet the experts tours
Every Tuesday throughout the year at 11.30am we'll be holding a Meet the experts guided tour. The tour will feature a different plant or fungus each month and you'll go behind the scenes and talk to Kew staff about their work. You'll find out interesting facts about the featured plant or fungus, including why it's grown at Kew and how it's used and cared for. You'll see artefacts from our collections, as well as seeing science in action in our Jodrell Laboratory.
Group walking tours
If you are a group of adults you may wish to pre-book a guided walking tour, taking in the highlights of the season and exploring the history, glasshouses and work of Kew. Choose from a general tour which takes in the highlights of the season or a themed tour on a specialist topic.
Pre-booked group tours normally start from the Guides Desk at Victoria Plaza, however other meeting points can be arranged if required. Tours are given in English although we can offer general tours in French, Gujarati, Hindi, Italian, German and British Sign Language depending on availability.
The cost is £60 per guide (this does not include your entry to the Gardens). Each guide can take up to 15 people. Groups of more than 15 must book more than one guide. Smaller groups are also accepted but the cost remains £60.
Tours take approximately one hour and may be booked from 10am every day throughout the year except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (24 and 25 December) when the Gardens are closed. Please note that no refunds can be given once booked.
Please complete and return the Guided walking tour booking form 2017 by the tenth day of the month prior to your visit. For example, return the form by 10 June for a July visit. Tours booked after this time depend upon guide availability. If uncertain of the final numbers in your party, you may provide an estimate.
Email your form to email@example.com or post to:
Museum No. 1
Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

You will be sent a formal confirmation with the name(s) of the guide(s) towards the end of the month prior to your tour. You will need to bring this with you to present to the guide(s).
