In a career spanning 40 years, David Nash has created sculptures out of wood and bronze, many of them monumental in scale. Nash's wood sculptures are sometimes carved or partially burned to produce a charred surface. His bronze works are cast at fine art foundries from original wood sculptures, which would otherwise not last well outside due to the intricacies of their form.

The Princess of Wales Conservatory was named after Princess Augusta, founder of Kew, and opened in 1987 by Diana, Princess of Wales. It is the most complex conservatory at Kew, containing ten computer-controlled climatic zones under one roof.
