Wakehurst Place in summer
Seasons and flowering times can vary by up to three weeks so
the periods below are only approximate.
All around the Mansion, there are flowers and shrubs in full bloom.
In June, down the Slips and in the Water Gardens, there are spectacular
displays of giant Himalayan lilies and blue poppies, followed later
by the breathtaking variety of Japanese irises.
July and August see the pastel-shade cottage planting in the Sir
Henry Price Garden and summer bedding in the Pleasaunce come into
top form. If Mediterranean plants attract, they are below the Balustrade;
while the rare plants in the Southern Hemisphere Garden and the
shrubs in the Specimen Beds never fail to impress, especially the
National Collections of hypericums and skimmias.
Further afield, as well as being a pleasant time to walk through
the woodlands on Wakehurst Place, there are wild flowers to be found
in Westwood Valley, including the common spotted orchid.
