Kew has contributed to a groundbreaking report on the state of wildlife in the UK in time for International Day of Biological Diversity. It reveals that 60% of species studied have declined over recent decades.

Tracking black rhinos in Zambia

Critically endangered black rhino have recently been reintroduced to the North Luangwa National Park in Zambia. Paul Smith, an expert in the vegetation of the area, is helping to identify the plant species that Rhinos rely on for their survival.

Madagascar’s palms near extinction

Eighty three percent of Madagascar’s palms are threatened with extinction, putting the livelihoods of local people at risk – according to the latest update of The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species released today by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). These findings draw on research undertaken by experts at Kew.

Falklands’ unique plants all in safe storage

All thirteen of the Falklands’ unique plant species are now being preserved at Kew's Millennium Seed Bank. Botanist Richard Lewis recently managed to track down seed-bearing plants of the silvery buttercup, the thirteenth species, in remote valleys on Weddell Island.
