Stachytarpheta (Verbenaceae) in Brazil
Stachytarpheta trispicata Nees & Mart. from Bahia, Brazil
The purpose of studying the genus Stachytarpheta in Brazil was to survey as many specimens of this genus as possible, the majority of which have been collected since the last major revision in 1895. From this a new classification has been made. The genus of 79 species has now been divided into 12 infrageneric groups. This was achieved from a detailed morphological analysis. Alongside this, a conservation status has been assigned to each species, many of which are endangered. The research has been published in Kew Bulletin 60: 161-272 (2005) where 25 new taxa have been described.
