Myrciinae (Myrtaceae) Genera for Flora Neotropica and Flora of the Guianas
Floristic series for which Myrciinae treatments are being prepared. © E. Lucas.
Flora Neotropica accounts are in preparation for Gomidesia (c.45 spp.) and Myrcia sensu lato (c.250-300 spp.). The Myrcia accounts will be prepared one monophyletic subgenus at a time, following the new infrageneric classification resulting from the Myrciinae Phylogeny project.
The Myrtaceae treatment for the Flora of the Guianas will be co-ordinated from RBG Kew and will involve an international team of collaborating authors. The Myrciinae genera will be treated at Kew, likely beginning with Calyptranthes (14 species). Myrcia and Marlierea will follow, again following the Myrciinae Phylogeny project framework.
Treatments for both Floras will include full IUCN conservation ratings, contributing to the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation by working towards Target 2: A preliminary assessment of the conservation status of all known plant species, at national, regional and international levels.
