Role
Neotropical flowering plant and fern identification; flora accounts/surveys and phylogenetic studies and conservation assessments.
Responsibilities include identification of flowering plants (dicotyledons) from the Neotropical region (incoming material and living collections), curation and management of herbarium collections of plant families allocated to the Tropical America Regional Team. Also involved in capacity-building in systematics and taxonomy (family sorts and identification, lecturing on Tropical Plants identification course). Current research activities include preparation of the Interactive Key to the Flowering Plants of the Neotropics and participation in habitat and species conservation assessments in the Neotropics, as part of Kew’s in situ conservation work. Also preparing family accounts for the ‘Flora of the Guianas’ (Cyrillaceae – completed, Sapotaceae), and several papers related to the revision of the genus Doryopteris (Pteridaceae, Pteridophyta), based on molecular, cytological and morphological data.
