Role
Maintenance of the Kew Bibliographic Database (KBD); collaborative anatomical research on CITES woods and leaf anatomy of Monocotyledons.
Responsible for the data entry of anatomical literature into the Plant Micromorphology Bibliographic Database (PMBD) as part of the Kew Bibliographic Database (KBD). This also involves the improvement of parsed PMBD data for input into the KBD, and the development of the KBD project. Research into the wood anatomy of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of wild fauna and flora) timbers to aid in identification. Work is primarily focused on the production of an identification guide for the Appendix II CITES-listed timber Swietenia and other woods that are commonly confused with this genus. Research into the leaf anatomy of the Monocotyledons as part of the ‘Anatomy of the Monocotyledons’ series, involving preparing microscope slides and recording data.
