Role

Management of the Economic Botany Collections, including curation and research.

Main contact for the Economic Botany Collections (EBC) at Kew, representing the Collections at relevant internal and external meetings. The main purpose is curation of the EBC, both in storage (housed in the Sir Joseph Banks Building) and on display in the Plants+People exhibition in Museum No. 1. This includes responsibility for: environmental monitoring; database management; outgoing loans for exhibition; providing material for scientific analysis; new acquisitions; image management; conservation; taxonomic classification; and security. Also responsible for: collections management policy documentation for the EBC; answering enquiries on the EBC and collections management issues; managing/assisting visiting researchers and special interest groups; managing interns and volunteers working on the Collections; teaching on the Ethnobotany MSc (Kent/Kew) and Herbarium Techniques Course.
