Role
Molecular systematics and phylogenetics of Mediterranean groups; conservation genetics (Iberian peninsula and UK) and evolution of apomictic groups.
Ensure smooth day-to-day running of the molecular systematics laboratory. Monitor the state and usage of laboratory equipment and assist in ordering supplies and equipment purchasing. Provide technical support for molecular techniques and improve methodologies and techniques to increase efficiency. Train students, researchers and visitors to the lab in a number of molecular techniques. Research currently focused on genetic variation and evolution of apomictic groups (Hieracium), molecular phylogenetics and systematics of Mediterranean groups and application of several molecular techniques (DNA sequencing, AFLP, microsatellites) to elucidate population structure in endemic taxa as an aid to conservation (e.g. Bencomia, Centaurium, Hieracium), focusing main interests on the Iberian peninsula and UK.
