Ordering laboratory consumables and chemicals, routine equipment maintenance; Health & Safety; assisting/training work experience students.
Raising orders with companies and purchasing supplies for the labs and receipting invoices. Agar stock, Gibberellic acid and Potassium Nitrate solutions are made up for the MSBP Curation section and for students to use. Reverse osmosis systems, zigzag machines, balances, scoring hoods, fume cupboards, seed-cleaning hoods are maintained. Arranging/supervising work experience students. Ensuring proper Health & Safety in the labs, especially in relation to student work. Receiving weekly deliveries of liquid nitrogen and ensuring its safe handling/supply to visitors. Microbe settle plates carried out six monthly in the whole building. Arranging for the safe disposal of clinical waste for incineration and of hazardous chemical waste solvents.
