Role

Curatorial support for the Tropical America regional team; research into Neotropical Sapotaceae and Malvaceae, also Isotrema manshuriensis (Aristolochiaceae).

My curatorial work includes selecting specimens for loans to other institutions and preparing them for sending, preparing specimens for mounting and incorporating them into the collections. I am involved in sorting and naming incoming Malvaceae, Passifloraceae and Aristolochiaceae from Central and South America and other families as part of the Tropical America team’s responsibilities. I also monitor and deal with infestations of insect pests in the Herbarium, as a member of the pest management team. Other responsibilities include overseeing/assisting visitors to the Herbarium and volunteers, training new staff, helping teach on the Herbarium Techniques Course, giving presentations on pest management, databasing herbarium specimens and scanning specimens as a record for outgoing loans and in response to requests from other institutions and research associates. Undertaking botanical fieldwork in Brazil and Montserrat, and research for a treatment of Sapotaceae for the ‘Flora of the Guianas’.
