Role
Taxonomy of African Acanthaceae and Gesneriaceae; African floristics.
Research focuses upon the treatment of the Gesneriaceae (African Violet) and Acanthaceae (Shrimp Plant) families for the ‘Flora of Tropical Africa’, the latter in collaboration with Dr Kaj Vollesen. The delimitation of species within each genus is followed by a key to identification, the writing of a formal description for each species, the formal publication of species new to science, and the provision of distributional, ecological and conservation status data for all taxa. Applied research into plant diversity in southern Tanzania and its use in conservation strategy. Additionally training as a generalist in the eastern and southern African flora.
