Taxonomy and systematics of Salicaceae sensu stricto.

Detailed investigations over many years of the willows of the world with an emphasis on those of Eurasia. Morphological studies to classify and identify species and hybrids. Herbarium work and field studies. Collaboration with botanists from many countries of Europe. More than 60 articles, papers and books on Salicaceae sensu stricto. Supervision of PhD students. Currently on a two-year Marie Curie Incoming Scientist Fellowship funded by the European Union.
