Seed biology.

My role as seed biology laboratory manager is to manage Kew’s Seed Biology laboratories as part of the Analytical Methods team in the Comparative Plant and Fungal Biology department.

I am responsible for maintaining and operating specialist laboratory equipment and liaising with service engineers. Managing laboratory budgets and finances, specialist training of staff, students, visiting scientists and overseas visitors, as well as carrying out specialist techniques in seed biology research and other projects both internally and externally to Kew. I am responsible for applying health & safety guidelines, including the production of COSHH and SOP documents for laboratory procedures and health & safety inductions for laboratory users, as well as acting as biological safety officer for the laboratory facilities as a whole.

I also line manage the seed biology laboratory technician in the Analytical Methods team and deputise for other laboratory managers in the team.
