Research, Conservation, Sustainable use, Training
A rich heritage
The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew has a long history of botanical research in Latin America. The herbarium, library, living and economic botany collections all contain globally important resources for Neotropical botany.
An applied focus
Kew's programme in Latin America, based on a foundation of systematic botany and taxonomy, is focused on the promotion of in situ conservation and sustainable use of plants. Training and capacity building are built into all our projects.
We are working primarily in Brazil, Peru and Bolivia, with projects ranging from vegetation survey and inventory (in support of conservation) to reforestation, agroforestry, ethnobotany and non-timber forest products.
