A widespread pantropical weed, indicated by Johnson (1971: 29) as a native of South and Central America but extremely widely introduced. It remains to be seen if both of Johnsons subspecies are present in Bolivia.

Note: Kuntzes infraspecific ranks are extremely difficult to interpret; his first entry would rank his [unranked] a robusta higher than his var. alba. Johnson (1971) stated that they were quite probably merely local responses to ecological conditions, they cannot be accorded taxonomic rank.
