Seed Conservation

At the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew scientists are striving for a better understanding of the underlying processes that control seed germination and storability, thus improving the efficiency of seed-banking methods. In partnership with international collaborators in the Millennium Seed Bank Project, appropriate technological solutions to seed conservation problems are also being sought.

From August 2000 this research will be based in the new purpose-built Wellcome Trust Millennium Building at Wakehurst Place, with advanced seed research and training facilities, including accommodation for visiting scientists.
