African Lamiaceae

Plectranthus barbatus

Work on African Lamiaceae has focused on completing the accounts of the family of Flora Zambesiaca (c. 260 species) and Flora of Tropical East Africa (c. 310 species). This baseline work has also facilitated various comparative studies as outlined in the Ocimeae and chemosystematics and sustainable use of Lamiaceae projects described separately.

The accounts are almost complete, with only around 20 species lacking draft accounts, though most of these are well advanced in their preparation. Roger Polhill is editing the manuscripts into Flora format from the various authors. Literature citations and conservation assessments still need to be added. We hope to be able to deliver manuscripts to the Flora editors in the summer of 2006.
