Role

Systematics, evolution and conservation of tropical African Leguminosae with special emphasis on Caesalpinioideae tribe Detarieae sensu lato.

Phylogenetic investigation and monographic treatments of Detarioid genera (Berlinia recently completed, Hymenostegia underway). Targeted collection of rare and poorly known African Caesalps particularly in Cameroon and Gabon. Participation in the Wet Tropics Africa team production of conservation checklists of forest areas in SW Cameroon as part of RBG Kew-Earthwatch Darwin Initiative programme. Collaboration with University of Yaounde, Cameroon and University of Dundee, UK on nitrogen assimilation systems in legumes and their application in sustainable utilisation of legumes as biofertilisers in Cameroon. Specialist identification of African Leguminosae in the Herbarium of RBG Kew for projects within and without RBG Kew. Editorship of an annual legumes systematics newsletter, Bean Bag, which disseminates legume information worldwide to c. 600 research scientists.
